L’shaper is a new service learning program for Jewish teens on the North Shore. L’shaper means “to improve” in Hebrew. The program combines hands-on service work with discussion inspired by current issues and core Jewish values relating to social and economic justice.
Teens will facilitate academic enrichment activities for 1st through 5th grade students at the Ford School in Lynn (i.e. playing board games that help with math, vocabulary and strategy skills, and helping with creative projects). Prior to doing their community service, each week, volunteer teens will have dinner together and engage in discussion led by Rabbi Fine, North Shore Teen Initiative's Adam Smith and Leah Weinrich.
Schedule:
6:15–6:45pm Dinner/discussion at Temple Sinai
6:45–7:00pm Transportation to Ford School
7:00–8:00pm Community service at Ford School
8:00–8:15pm Transportation back to Temple Sinai
Dinner will be provided by Temple Sinai and North Shore Teen Initiative and transportation by the JCCNS.
