Cohen Hillel Academy to Host Screening of Freedom Writers and Discussion with Rabbi Baruch HaLevi on March 4 Cohen Hillel Academy will host a screening of the film Freedom Writers, featuring Hilary Swank, followed by a discussion led by Rabbi Baruch HaLevi at Cohen Hillel Academy at Six Community Road in Marblehead on Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m. Join in for the thought-provoking evening which will include a lively discussion of the film's themes that include freedom, tolerance and the power of writing. "The themes are particularly relevant as we prepare for Passover and reflect on the exodus of the Jews and their journey towards freedom. We will also discuss the importance of writing as a form of self-reflection, self-discovery and prayers," says Rabbi HaLevi. The screening is a prelude to Hillel Academy's presentation "Becoming A Catalyst for Change" with Erin Gruwell at Temple Sinai at One Community Road in Marblehead on Wednesday. March 24 at 7:30 p.m. Gruwell is the New York Times best-selling author and inspirational teacher portrayed by Hilary Swank in the movie Freedom Writers. The event, which is part of the Henry Schlusselberg Educational Lecture Series, is free and open to the public. "We are hosting the screening of the film and discussion with Rabbi HaLevi to give the community an opportunity to view and discuss the film in a public venue. We're fortunate to have Erin Gruwell, who is played by Hilary Swank in the movie, come to our community and share her insights," says Diane Knopf, Director of Development at Cohen Hillel Academy.
